PDG Rtn. AKS V.R.Muthu was born to Mr. V.V.V. Rajendran and Mrs. Jegathambal on October 6, 1953.
 
His schooling happened at K.V.S. Higher Secondary School, Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu and his PUC was at St. Joseph College, Trichy, Tamil Nadu. He graduated as a Bachelor of Commerce from M.M.K. College, Mumbai.

He started his career as an intern, who practised auditing under Auditor K.V.Ramasamy (Chennai) for 3 years. 1978 was when it all began. He entered his family business of manufacturing and marketing Gingelly Oil. 

​

Right from day one, his interest was towards marketing. He continually kept exposing himself to the advertising knacks of those days. In a span of 6 six years (1980 – 1986), he heaved the annual turnover of the company to 12 crore and now (2022 - 2023) it is 900 crore. 

​

When he discovered the true scope of business, powerful marketing could bring in, he and his brothers jointly created a new brand of Gingelly Oil, IDHAYAM. He studied exceptional advertising methods and incomparable promotion techniques. Eventually, Idhayam redefined the term, ‘Marketing’ and the state of Tamil Nadu gracefully accepted it with open arms.

Today, brand IDHAYAM is attested as a symbol of quality and that it was on the breakfast table of the Honorable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi during his visit to Russia (2017) is a convincing testimonial. South Indians all over from Toronto in North West to Sydney in South East share smiles stating that Idhayam is available to them.

Rotary International attracted him as an incredible organization that operates on the idea, “Service above Self!” He became a Rotarian in 1981 and feels that his life became more meaningful after that. 

He believes that charity to health and education is charity in its supreme form.  With the incomparable support of fellow Rotarians, he took part in projects which brought changes psychology-wise, finance-wise and health-wise in the lives of a million people around him.

Organizing heart camps, providing artificial limbs, supporting eye donation and vision screening, adopting orphanages and old age homes, meeting common people’s health needs, promoting Tamil literature, motivating sports champions and encouraging the teaching fraternity of the education sector have been some of the important projects of Idhayam family through Rotary Club of Virudhunagar till date.

Rtn. V.R.Muthu, a distinguished member of the Rotary Club of Virudhunagar, is an Arch Klumph Society (Chair’s Circle) member and currently serves as the END POLIO NOW Coordinator for Zone 5 (2025–2028). As a member of the Paul Harris 711 Club, he contributes to the preservation of the historic 711 Room, the birthplace of Rotary International. His philanthropic commitment includes a Polio Fund contribution of 93,202.31 USD and total donations exceeding 6,29,310.49 USD as of 20.09.2025.

He has been instrumental in driving major service initiatives. During 2022–23, the district carried out 8 Global Grants Projects worth Rs. 3.85 crores, a CSR grant project valued at Rs. 18 lakhs, and 43 District Grant Projects amounting to Rs. 69 lakhs. Additionally, he played a significant role in various global grants implemented across several Rotary districts and countries through his company IDHAYAM, contributing Rs. 60 lakhs. His dedication was further recognized when he was

His contributions also extend to impactful medical initiatives. In 2022–23, District 3212 launched the Kamarajar Heart Care Bus through Global Grant GG2341081, and the project continued to evolve, later being gifted to Kauvery Hospital during 2024–25. As of 20 September, the district has conducted 78 medical camps, offering 3,895 ECGs and 2,067 ECHO tests, all completely free of charge.

​

He also sponsors several continuous service projects of the Rotary Club of Virudhunagar. These include the recognition of outstanding sportspersons of Virudhunagar since 2002, sustaining a 23-year legacy, and the monthly T-E-A-C-H (Teacher Support) training programme, conducted consistently since July 2014 for the past eleven years.
